Digicel

Digicel is a Jamaican-based Caribbean mobile phone network and home entertainment provider operating in 25 markets worldwide.

Digicel has operated in several countries, including Guyana, Fiji, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Samoa, St. Lucia, Suriname, and Jamaica. In 2024 a group of U.S. private equity firms took over control of the company as part of debt restructuring.
Digicel does not have an active IPO and remains a private company. The Caribbean telecommunications giant previously planned to launch a massive U.S. IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2015 to raise over $1.5 billion, but canceled the offering due to market volatility and emerging market concerns.
While the company explored returning to the public markets in the years following, it ultimately chose to remain private and has undergone significant corporate restructuring. The key details surrounding its previous public offering plans include:
  • Target Exchange: NYSE
  • Ticker: DCEL
  • Expected Valuation: Up to $5 billion
  • Reasons for Cancellation: Market volatility and unfavorable conditions in emerging markets
